Alongside the museum and the archaeological park, the new building for the research center is a serving component of the overall concept.
Our competition entry envisages a maximally restrained presence and design in a unique cultural and landscape space:
The new building will be integrated into the existing and topographically terraced garden on the site of the former Richter House.
The public area with a divisible lecture hall, the necessary ancillary rooms and an appropriate foyer is located on the upper level and thus on the same level as the large event terrace of the museum garden.
The larger part, with the non-public rooms for the research center, is pushed into the slope on the lower building level as part of the existing terrace and is only visible in the landscape via a section of the site with the south façade. On top of this, like a pavilion in the garden, stands a restrained but elegant timber structure with the lecture hall, the entrance foyer and the necessary ancillary rooms. A small atrium provides the lower level with additional light and air.
